Suzuki Piano Teacher Position – Guelph School of Music

Description: Established in 1997, The Guelph School of Music is seeking a contract Suzuki piano teacher to start with 2-3 teaching days with the opportunity for expansion. Duties begin September 2018. We are looking for applicants with a passion for teaching young children and a commitment to furthering their Suzuki training.

Duties: The teacher will teach private lessons during the school year. The teacher will also teach performance classes held  once per term  (fall, winter, spring) and attend our winter and spring recitals. Teachers are required to attend Faculty Meetings held 3 times per year.


  1.  Bachelor’s degree in music and/or Associate Diploma from an accredited conservatory such as Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada. 
  2. ECC and Suzuki Book One Suzuki training.

Remuneration: Compensation is commensurate with training and experience. (Range of $40-$45 per hour for teaching duties.)  Teachers receive additional remuneration for meetings, recitals and performance classes.

Suzuki String School of Guelph – Suzuki Cello Teacher Position

POSITION: A one-year full-time Suzuki cello teacher with the Suzuki String School of Guelph (SSSG) in Guelph, Ontario to commence in September, 2018 and end in June, 2019 (36 weeks of teaching)

DUTIES: To teach Suzuki private lessons and group classes to cellists from beginner level to post Suzuki repertoire. A minimum of 20 hours of weekly private lessons and 2-3 hours of group lessons will be offered. In addition, attendance at student recitals, full school concerts, parent meetings, monthly faculty meetings is expected.

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors of Music degree (or equivalent) and Suzuki training and experience is required. A Masters degree in Suzuki pedagogy or equivalent would be an asset. Candidates must have a strong commitment to the Suzuki philosophy and a love of working with children.

DESCRIPTION: Founded in 1972, the Suzuki String School of Guelph currently has 180 violin, viola and cello students of all levels being taught by three full-time and five part- time faculty members. Three of our faculty members are Suzuki teacher trainers. All lessons and groups are taught at the Guelph Youth Music Centre, a community centre dedicated to teaching the arts. The School is overseen by a volunteer Board. Guelph, a university community of 131,000 has an abundance of musical activity, including a semi- professional symphony orchestra and is within an hour of the larger cities of Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo. Qualifications: Bachelors or Masters in music and SAA through book 6 registered. Minimum 5 years Suzuki teaching. We are looking for team players with a passion for working with children, a desire to continue lifelong learning, exceptional maturity and an ability to effectively communicate. Canadian citizenship preferred.
