Bio

Nena LaMarre has been teaching piano since the age of fourteen, after obtaining her grade ten certificate from the Royal Conservatory of Music. She received scholarship to study with Boris Berlin at the Conservatory, where she received an ARCT in both piano performance and teaching. She continued her studies with William Aide at the University of Western Ontario, obtaining a Bachelor of Music with Honours in Piano Performance.

Since that time she has enjoyed working with young students and their families in the cities of London, Toronto, Newmarket and Barrie. She began her Suzuki teacher training in 1987, after observing her oldest daughter being taught in this method for violin. All three of her now-grown children were Suzuki students. Her Suzuki studies have been with several outstanding teachers including Faye Adams, Bruce Anderson, Doris Koppelman, Gail Lange, and Peggy Swingle, among others.

Nena has been invited as a guest teacher to the Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institute, Montreal Piano Institute, Oakville Performing Arts Camp, Royal Conservatory Suzuki Workshop, as well as many private studios. She is a workshop clinician as well as adjudicating from time to time.

Nena currently resides in Barrie, Ontario, where she maintains a Suzuki piano studio active in the community. Her students, aged three to eighty-three, have won numerous awards, including finalists in the Rosebowl and Provincials. She is the pianist at Central United Church.

Nena is a member of the Ontario Registered Teacher’s Association and is the Chair on the board of the Ontario Suzuki Association. She is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas. She is currently working to complete her Suzuki Teacher Trainer certification, in order to share her expertise in teaching piano to young children.
