Bio

Dr. Yeung grew up as a “Suzuki Kid” in Winnipeg, Canada, learning viola from Joanne Martin. Her Suzuki teacher trainers include Joanne Bath, Karen-Michele Kimmett, and Kathleen Spring. Dr. Yeung is a proponent of lifelong learning and enjoys working alongside colleagues to offer enriching programs for students, parents, and teachers. Examples include directing and co-chairing Suzuki workshops in North Carolina, Ohio, and Kentucky, administrating a youth orchestra in Chapel Hill, coordinating summer programs in Cincinnati and Whiteshell Provincial Park (Manitoba), and directing a Winnipeg inner-city teen girls’ program. Dr. Yeung is an invited presenter at the 45th International Viola Congress (Fall 2018).

As a string quartet member, Myra played in the fully-funded Niles String Quartet at the University of Kentucky and participated as quartet-in-residence at UNC-Chapel Hill’s annual week-long Chamber Music Workshop. She also competed in the (Canadian) National Music Festival and performed in chamber masterclasses with Janos Starker and with Musicians From Marlboro, among others.

Myra is the winner of competitions and awards for viola, piano, and chamber music, including 1st Place in the CCM Viola Concerto Competition and two provincial Gold Medals for piano from Royal Conservatory Examinations. Her primary viola teachers also include Catharine Carroll Lees, Masao Kawasaki, Steven Dann, Yizhak Schotten, Melissa Reardon, Yoram Youngerman, and Daniel Scholz.
