905: Summer 2021 News

905 North

The SAO Board Area Representative for 905N (also covering 705/807) is Susan Beth Barak (info@heart-strings.ca). This is Susan’s last newsletter in her term as Area Rep. If you’re interested in becoming this role, email Claire at info@suzukiontario.org.

Heart-Strings Talent Education has continued to be active with online (mostly) weekly groups as well as private lessons. Groups have featured special workshops and listening events and challenges. We are looking forward to finally being able to reconnect in-person in the near future! We are planning ahead for a terrific 2021-2022 year, and are hoping to be able to redouble our community service activities.

Susan Barak continues to be an active member of the Suzuki Canada DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility) committee. Human rights and social justice have been embedded in Heart-Strings policies since the studio was founded, and we continue to listen, learn, and grow together.

Students who auditioned successfully for the Newmarket & Area ORMTA Honours recital were featured in the branch online recital this spring. All Heart-Strings students also received certificates and trophies for their outstanding performances, which were all top of their class. Many have also done brilliantly with online RCM exams. Of course, the real magic and core of Suzuki is that regardless of the fantastic instrumental musical skills we are developing, we keep centered on the idea that our community is focused on centering character and developing beautiful, noble hearts.

Our spring studio recitals were held on May 22 (online), to everyone’s great enjoyment. Bravo to one and all for your heartfelt and beautiful playing! We are very much hoping that the fall recitals can resume in-person again… Stay tuned!

With more emphasis on social and emotional learning during the pandemic, Heart-Strings embarked on a Practice Pals Program to help foster closer connections with group members and to maintain motivation, support, and collaboration throughout the week between lessons. As always, Heart-Strings continues to welcome collegial creative collaborations with other studios, whether online or in-person, when and where permitted.

We are excitedly looking forward to a new summer theory camp as well as a very special online workshop with some American friends!

Wishing everyone a fantastic summer!
