Activities for Students

On Saturday there will be a workshop day for students that will include a group class, enrichment and a play-in. A parent session, presented by Robert Richardson (MB) will round out the student events.

Activities for Teachers

New this year! Teacher sessions will start on Saturday for a full two day event. On the Saturday, teachers will be able to choose from attending different sessions or to go and observe classes.

On Sunday, the day will include the SAO Annual General Meeting, Keynote session presented by Robert Richardson (MB), and a variety of other sessions. While some sessions may be instrument specific, others will be of more general teaching topics. The full conference schedule will be available in the fall.

Conference registration includes Saturday and Sunday lunch, observation and/or participation in the Student Play Ins, and attendance to all scheduled sessions.

Hotel Information

The SAO has arranged for members attending the conference weekend to receive the Laurier Corporate rate at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites – St. Jacob’s.

Please note: We have been advised by all local hotels that this is a particularly busy weekend in the Waterloo region. Keep this in mind if you require accommodations for conference weekend.

Now accepting SAO Conference 2023 Session Prop0sals

At the 2023 conference, we want to host sessions on a variety of topics. Applications to be a session host are open to all SAO members, as well as all Canadian SAA members attending the SAO conference in person.

Each session will be scheduled for 60 minutes during the conference weekend. All session presenters are encouraged to include discussion time in their preparation.

Session topic proposals can include any point of interest from the following categories:

  • Suzuki philosophy
  • Instrument specific pedagogy
  • Teaching strategies
  • Suzuki family education
  • Teaching materials and tools
  • Studio events and activities

Session format options include:

  • Single presenter
  • Team presenters
  • Panel discussions
