Summer 2021: Letter from the Chair

AnchorDear SAO Members,

We have finally reached the end of this school year! While this year has presented challenges that we could not have dreamed of a few years ago, I know that we have all worked diligently to reimagine ways to connect with our students and the musical community. This was not easy, and I am sure there were more than a few sleepless nights, but I know that our studios and our Suzuki community in Ontario were well served by the work of our members.

As we all prepare to rest and recharge in the summer months, please take a few minutes to check out all the amazing work being done in our community. In this issue, you will find the latest Board News, membership renewals and perks, information about upcoming events, and news from around the province in the area reports. You can also find the latest information about the exciting online edition of the Southwestern Ontario Suzuki Institute (SOSI) happening in August. Check out the innovative and exciting program that is available for your students!

Mark your calendars for November 13 & 14! This year, our annual conference will take place online. The conference team has been working hard to create an inspiring weekend for students and teachers. We are pleased to welcome Martin Ruttiman as the keynote speaker, as well as our clinicians: Mark Mutter (violin), Carmen Evans (violin), Myra Yeung (viola), Sally Gross (cello), and Nicole Wilton (piano). The conference team is offering financial support for students and teachers to attend this event. For more information, please contact Claire at info@suzukiontario.org.

With the promise of a more relaxed summer, I hope you will all continue to seek musical inspiration and find ways to build community within your studio and through connections to the larger musical community. I hope to see all of your smiling faces at the conference in November, if not before.
