What is the role of the parent in the Suzuki Method?
The parent and teacher become partners in creating a natural, supportive learning environment for the child. The parent is the “home coach” of the child, guiding the daily practice sessions according to the teacher’s instructions during the lesson. A parent does not need to have musical background to work with his or her own child at home.
Through daily listening the parent becomes familiar with the sounds of the music. During the program, the parent becomes skilled in observing how children learn. The teacher will help the parent master the basic skills necessary to be an effective home coach. Parent and teacher work in partnership to create a nonstressful approach to learning, and to develop the child’s sensitivity, self-discipline, and life-long love of learning.
